In the hectic age we live in, where time seems to be a precious resource and personal comfort is becoming increasingly important, the art installation “Closer to You” finds its place in the urban landscape to address these fundamental themes. This ingenious work combines LED light technology with audience interaction to bring the concepts of comfort and time dilation to the forefront in the environment of public and transient spaces.

The Closer to You project focuses on people’s needs in terms of personal comfort and time spent in public spaces. As urban life becomes increasingly busy and hectic, this installation aims to bring a touch of comfort and privacy. The sofa that makes up the installation brings the idea of family, comfort, safety and warmth closer to the public – says Teodor Buruiană, the artist behind this creation. The young artist has chosen to illustrate the design of the Chesterfield sofa, which has a long-standing presence in history and is considered a luxurious item due to the opulence of the materials used, using his own technique of modeling iron in three-dimensional space with the help of LED lights.

“We decided that this element should be done in a minimalist style through a design-based perspective and with the help of LED lights to represent the themes and features highlighted above. People feel safe at home or in a place that gives them comfort, for this reason I believe that the project put forward has a strong impact on society, it can support the resolution of the problems exposed and brings an added value of the perceptual evolution about the future and how certain aspects keep the essence of practical things”, explains Teodor.

The warm light of the installation further amplifies the concept of the project and gives the audience an intimate reassurance about any space that can be considered home. As a versatile concept, the installation can be placed in many contexts and illustrates a vision of the relationship between audience, art and space in the future.

The installation “Closer to You” can be admired this autumn in Timișoara, as part of The Night-Art Festival, where it will bring a moment of rest and respite to passers-by overwhelmed by everyday urban chaos.
