ABOUT
Lights On Romania is a private initiative meant to bring light artworks to a general audience.Lights On is created by the Daisler Association. It started back in 2015 with an open contest for festive lighting solutions and the winner was in fact the city whose different areas were decorated during that Christmas season in a brand new way.
In 2018, Lights On added its light-art festival section. The aim was to show the people in Cluj that light can be much more than they used to know. So we transformed the city in a huge, open and free art gallery by showcasing works belonging to local and foreign artists. If we look back (or if you look back in the Previous Edition section), the works of Russian Leonid Tishkov (Private Moon) or British Luke Jerram (Museum of the Moon & Gaia), Dutch based Alla Minawi (Three Generations) or our own fabulous creation Mi-e Dor De Tine (I miss you) placed in 2019 in the heart of Canary Wharf – London, in an open dialogue with Și Mie (Me Too), placed in Cluj-Napoca … ooo, they are so many (please look them up in the Previous Edition section)
Overall, what stood the test of time were the stories that came along with the artworks and the special relationships between the light sculptures and the spaces where they were presented. Stories that were brought to life the need for us to explore more of our city, more of ourselves, al light is always a part of ourselves.
THE ARTWORKS
Presented by Romanian and foreign artists selected by the Lights On Romania team come with sincere stories regarding one minor or major topic, depending on the theme of each edition.
Foreign and local artists, many of them familiar or unfamiliar with the general audience exhibit famous or first-hand creations in Cluj-Napoca, the city that transforms into a unique art gallery.
