This is Portal - the largest piece of light-art that ever visited Romania. Created by British studio Lucid Creates, Portal symbolizes the passage from Communism to Democracy through the Romanian Revolution that originated in Timișoara.

It was exhibited in December 2024.

The Daisler Association appreciates the efforts and the collaboration of the Timișoara 2023 European Capital of Culture Association and the Timișoara City Hall.

This bilateral initiative is implemented by the Project Management Unit from the Ministry of Culture, Romania, acting as Programme Operator for RO-CULTURE, in partnership with Arts and Culture Norway, acting as Programme partner. There’s something uniquely captivating about highlighting the architectural features of a well-known building through unconventional methods. Take a look at our proposal for last year’s Lights On edition, featuring the Meta Tree piece by Radu Ignat.

It was the first time anyone had projected onto the flat surface of the Academic College building in Cluj-Napoca, and we felt it integrated beautifully with the urban environment.

Built in the 1930s, the building has long held an important role in the city’s life. We believe we succeeded in adding another layer to its ongoing story.

The Portal by Daniel Popescu was one of the highlights of the 2024 edition of @@lightsonromania. Using up to 20km of fiber optics, the work is a stunning reflection on the luminous pollution that affects the night sky in urban areas, making it impossible to see the stars or various constellations. It also marks the first collaboration between Lights On Romania an VLG Cables.
