New, bold and brilliant student ideas come to life at Lights On – The Night-Art Festival. Lights On becomes the first light art festival in Romania to directly involve national universities in the New Media phenomenon, while serving as a major collaboration and showcasing platform for the students of the West University of Timișoara and those of the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca.
Thanks to the Daisler Association and the financial support of George, BCR’s first smart bank, both universities will benefit from a grant of €5,000 each to bring two unique and fascinating light installations to life.
“BCR invests in scholarships for students who imagine the connection between art, technology and society through innovative techniques. Together, we bridge the future and the creative potential of every community, creating the premises to reinvent business, education and society. BCR is a partner for Timișoara, for a smart city and a smart future.” – Ionuț Stanimir, BCR Marketing & Communication Director
Selected by Daniel Popescu, Lights On‘s artistic director, the two installations each have a unique approach and promise to bring an added light and meaning to the festival. I wanna be loved/Everybody does, proposed by the West University of Timișoara, is an immersive sculpture made of compact polycarbonate, polyurethane foam, LEDs and metal structures that wants to show us how we can “use” love as a transformative tool. On the other hand, UAD Cluj students give life to a number of 2,000 long, white textile socks that personify the typologies of citizens and their ideas – the installation being a pretext for social community activation around themes found in everyday life.
We designed this section of Lights-On The Night-Art Festival around emerging artists and talented students. We believe it’s an extra chance for them to find their place in the art world and develop their innovative projects. Together we bring light to our cultural universe and inspire the community!
