TAPE THAT, a collective of artists from Germany, will bring to life a unique space in Timișoara. A space with a special history, but over which time has left traces and dust. With the help of adhesive tape, they will illuminate the FLORA building – the one that in September and October officially becomes the first house of light in Romania.
The artists customize each work as inspired by the location. “The plan is to use an RGB effect for our installation. Specifically, the color of our installation will change in the light. RGB stands for red, green and blue – which are the most contrasting colors in the spectrum. In red, the light blue stripe appears black and vice versa. With this effect we create a trippy atmosphere that invites us to take a break. We are not the kind of artists who want to spread a particular message or idea and dictate what the public should think of our art. Overall, we hope to spark inspiration for a creative endeavor of our own. If there’s one thing you can probably call it, it’s that you can be creative no matter what circumstances and tools you have,” explains Cedric, part of the TAPE THAT team.
The Timișoara audience will therefore be treated to an artistic experience that transcends conventional boundaries and reminds us that beauty and creativity can be found in the most unexpected places. Under the moonlight and the glow of the stars, we will explore together the mysteries of nightlife, using different ways of interacting with art.
“Perhaps nighttime events may speak more to the senses and emotions, and daytime events to the rational and curious mind. The attention span of visitors may be higher during the day, which makes it good for art that needs explanation and context. But art that is perceived instinctively by the vibe it carries might benefit better from a night-time event,” says the artist.
This is not the only surprise that Timișoara residents and visitors will have at FLORA. Lights On will also bring a sparkle to this fabulous place through other upcoming events – debates or meetings with artists.
