Light is everything. It’s the torch that reveals the beauty of the world in the most subtle and captivating ways possible. It shifts the perspective of any moment, challenges us to contemplate at every step and guides us into the darkness. And it is, of course, a never-ending source of inspiration for artists and creators in all fields. This is, in fact, the idea Cedric shared with us, as part of TAPE THAT – a Berlin-based collective of artists who are determined to demonstrate how even the most mundane objects can be transformed into art.
“Light is everything. It is the physical element that makes visual art possible and welcome. Without light there is no visual art. We are often inspired by things around us that one might consider boring. But as soon as light is added, they become interesting. For example, a fence casting a shadow on an uneven surface. A building reflecting the sky on a glass facade, water in a pool splitting light like a prism. And so on. Observing and appreciating these phenomena is the first step to creating art. And from there it inspires everything that follows,” says Cedric.
TAPE THAT, a Berlin-based artist collective, joins the festival in Timișoara. They will create an ad-hoc artwork in the Lighthouse – the home of Lights On in the city on Bega. The young artists create artworks out of adhesive tape. Inspired by the spaces they find everywhere and fascinated by the idea of creating art out of mundane objects, they regularly travel around the world to popularise the way they make art. The Night-Art Festival brings nocturnal art to the spotlight, changing the perspective on art and offering visitors a unique experience.
