In the contemporary art world, light has become more than a source of illumination; it has become a way for artists to communicate, challenge and transform the surrounding space. At the intersection of art, technology and community, Lights On – The Night-Art Festival is an eloquent example of innovation and collaboration.
For the first time in Romania, Lights On directly involves universities in the New Media phenomenon and offers students from the West University of Timisoara and the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca two grants of €5,000 each for the creation of two unique light installations. Beyond the resources needed to bring young ideas to fruition, the initiative also provides an impetus for innovation and experimentation, an unprecedented platform for collaboration and exposure in our country.
The selected installations are testimony to the creative and technical potential of the students. If the West University of Timișoara presents an immersive sculpture that explores the concept of love, those from UAD Cluj use a unique artistic medium – textile socks – to create a social dialogue around everyday issues.
At the heart of this collaboration is the belief that emerging artists and talented students are the engine of innovation in the arts. They bring youthfulness and a different perspective, and through such an opportunity, can accelerate their entry into the professional art world.
For the community, this initiative is an opportunity for interaction and reflection on the surrounding world, demonstrating that art is not only a form of expression, but also a powerful tool for social transformation and evolution.
