Timișoara, a city with a special history, becomes truly alive and fascinating through the guided tours offered by Timișoara Tour Guide. We spoke to Alexandra Irimia, the creative mind behind the project, which for more than 10 years has been offering unique experiences that allow the curious to discover new perspectives of the city on the Bega. She combines every piece of information with a passion for history and culture, turning every experience into a small cultural adventure.

Authentic stories and connections

Guides offer much more than just an introduction. They provide access to untold stories and succeed in getting participants to look at the city with new eyes.

“It goes hand in hand with being an educator. It’s just that the way a guide works is more on the non-formal side. They structure things in such a way that they don’t just deliver a piece of information like years or names, but guides actually animate things that people walk past on a regular basis – from buildings, whether shabby or forgotten, to lesser-known events. The guides bring life to walls, to architecture, they give a new perspective so that people don’t pass indifferently on the street, and the great satisfaction is especially when we work with locals, because we get that <> effect and you notice a difference in their lives – they start to look up at buildings and understand new symbols,” says Alexandra Irimia.

With each step, visitors are invited to discover Timișoara in a new light – whether they choose to walk through streets hiding architectural treasures, discover how nature blends harmoniously into the urban landscape or travel back in time to the events that have marked the history of the place.

“All the stories of Timișoara are linked to three elements: multiculturalism, the Bega river and the Revolution. In fact the city was built on a swamp – that is, the river we see today has only one arm, but more than 100 years ago there were tangles. Timișoara has always been a strategic military point, which has also drawn attention to this place. That’s where the story begins…”, says Alexandra.

Timișoara Tour Guide offers different opportunities – from tours through the historic center via the Citadel neighborhood, to visits to neighborhoods such as Fabric or Iosefin, but also guided tours based on architectural themes (such as Art Nouveau buildings) or the 1989 Revolution tour.
